U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a current member and former chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, yesterday issued the following statement after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled the California ballot measure Proposition 8 unconstitutional:
“Yesterday two federal judges substituted their own values for those of the seven million Californians who enacted Proposition 8. This is judicial activism at its worst, and I strongly oppose this decision. This decision was not about the law, but about judges taking power away from the people. Unfortunately, it was par for the course for the Ninth Circuit, the most liberal and activist in the country.”
