Pinnacle girls’ basketball is getting ready for another year on the hardwood. After installing a new zone offense last year, the team is eyeing a better fate with more familiarity in the system.

With that being said, there will still be some changes. The Lady Panthers are switching from a zone defense to a man defense, which could take some time to adjust. “Last year [in the zone offense], we went from bad, better, to a dramatic improvement by the end of the year,” said head coach Mark Stuckenschneider. “I expect something similar with our defensive changes.”

Pinnacle will be bringing back five key players, four of which were starters last year, which always helps. The goal now is to have more consistency. “I’m hopeful for this year. Now, it comes down to consistency and chemistry,” said Stuckenschneider. “Our goal is to be in the top eight in state. That will give us a first round bye and a home playoff game.”

The Lady Panthers have a couple exciting events this season. First, they will host their own tournament, the Panther Winter Classic, featuring teams from Dugway, Merit, Tabiona and Freedom Prep on Dec. 13-14. Then, they will play on the Jazz home court inside the Vivint Smart Home Area on Dec. 17 against American Prep.

Only time will tell how quickly and effectively the Lady Panthers can come together.
