As the Emery County Commission meeting opened on Tuesday, Commissioner Lynn Sitterud asked for public comments. Doris Quinn, Travis Quinn’s mother, replied with a thank you for the lamb fry and proceeds that will greatly assist the Quinn family in their fight against Travis’ cancer.
The next item on the agenda was to open, review and award the proposals for the public Lands consultant. There was only one application from Cody Stewart, prompting him to be awarded the position. Next, Uintah Group, LLC was awarded the proposal to secure grants through the Department of Energy.
Contract qorkers for the Emery County Fair were ratified in the sum of $200 each. The workers were Will Payne, Brett White, Corey McArthur, Adrie Thomason, Matt Thomason and Shandi Ewell. Also ratified were Amendments 0002 and 0003 regarding the Trail Mountain EWP, the No Cost Extension of Time Agreement on the Millsite Dam Rehabilitation Project and the yearly resolution authorizing the filing of cross-appeals for 2019 Centrally Assessed Properties regarding PacifiCorp and Century Link, Inc.
Laurel Magnuson, representing the Domestic Violence Coalition, asked the commissioners for a monetary donation to help host a domestic violence training in Emery County on Sept. 4. Previously, the events have been in Carbon County; however, now Emery County would like its own. This would also include police officers who deal with these situations. The training will feature presenters, lunch, breaks and collaboration. The commissioners requested time to consider budget allocations and will respond at the next commission meeting.
A business license for Thomas Scott’s “Getting’ Our Smoke On” barbecue was approved. Orangeville City’s request to be included in the county’s building inspection service area was also approved. The funds for these services are distributed 75 percent to the inspector, 20 percent to the county and 5 percent to the city. The tourism director requested approval of a contract with Reel Rock, a film company, for a 30 second tourism advertisement, which the county would then own. This was approved.
All the elected officials expressed their gratitude for the help for the Emery County Fair. Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk stated thanks for the help getting the parking and traffic for the concert handled so well. Emery Telcom’s contribution of $10,000 and advertising was appreciated as well as many other contributors. The commissioners also took a lamb fry to the Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center for the residents who were unable to attend the one at the park.
