Over 280 Emery High School students attended the annual graduation party on Thursday evening at the Emery Recreation Center. Several tournaments were planned for the students, including 3-on-3 basketball, spike ball, cornhole and ping pong. Tables with card games were also available throughout the evening.
Swire Coca Cola and Frito Lay donated treats for all the participants. Several local businesses generously contributes door prizes, which were awarded throughout during the event. Also taking place during the event was a seat belt convincer simulator by the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) that simulates a 5 MPH head-on collision to demonstrate how the seat belt locks out. This took place to encourage seat belt use in the young drivers.
Starting at approximately 8 p.m., the fun lasted until the wee hours of the morning, 1 a.m. Lorie Huntington has hosted and planned the party for many years. This year, she was assisted by Ashley Nielson, Beth Butler and other parents who stopped by to give assistance. Huntington would also like to extend appreciation to the National Guard, Emery County School District and Emery County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shaun Bell for their assistance in making the event a success.
