An evening of nostalgia and toe-tapping for members and guests of the Emery County Historical Society occurred Thursday as the Straight Canyon Band and cowboy poetist Sam Deleux performed at Castle Valley Outdoors.
Band members Kevin Peacock, Bob Baker, Starla Davis and Dean Whimpey played many of the favorite songs of all times as the audience sang along and enjoyed a trip down memory lane. Alternating with the music was cowboy poet and humorist Sam Deleux. Deleux, a former teacher and resident of Emery County, retold many of her life experiences through rhyme and prose. This also took many spectators through their former experiences. A relaxing and much enjoyed evening was had by attendees with the sunset as the beautiful backdrop added to the atmosphere of Castle Valley Outdoors.
As is tradition, a member was recognized for his contribution to the Emery County Historical Society. Phil Fauver received the award this year for the many pages of history he has provided through pictures. Fauver, along with his wife, son and daughter-in-law, were all recognized Thursday evening.
Culminating the evening was Dutch oven cobbler and ice cream. Many will be sure to return again next year to this long standing and much anticipated annual Cowboy Poetry gathering.
