Press Release

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Green River Senior Center, a driver safety class will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. It has been several years since a driver safety class has been hosted at the center. The four-hour class will present valuable safe driving techniques and strategies to senior drivers. There are no written or driving tests given.

Participants will be given a certificate to present to their insurance company that will allow them to receive a discount on their auto insurance premium. When both spouses take the class, both will receive the discount, which will be effective for three years. Topics will include how vision, hearing, reaction time and agility change as senior drivers age.

Also, there will be discussion on the many safety features that are included on the newer cars such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, electronic stability control and other devices to protect drivers and passengers. Finally, information will be presented regarding the roads and streets that have changed: roundabouts, flashing yellow turn arrows and other road signs as well as new traffic rules and regulations.

There are a series of short videos shown throughout that will enhance the class. Cost for the class is $15 for AARP members and $20 for others. To register, contact the center at (435) 564-8236.
