An accident on Highway 6 near SR 89, otherwise known as Thistle Junction, left two dead and more with critical injuries on Saturday afternoon.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, two vehicles were involved in the crash including a Dodge Intrepid and a Dodge 3500 pickup crew cab pulling a large horse trailer loaded with three horses. The Intrepid had stopped on SR 89 and attempted to make a left hand turn onto Highway 6, moving into the path of the pickup.

“The driver of the Dodge pickup attempted to avoid a collision by moving left,” the highway patrol shared. “The pickup and horse trailer collided with the passenger car in a ‘T-Bone’ fashion.”

The driver of the Intrepid as well as the driver of the pickup survived with critical injuries. Two passengers in the pickup died on scene. Another passenger in the pickup survived with critical injuries. All of the horses also suffered serious injury.

“There was no indication of alcohol, controlled substance or prescription drugs on scene,” UHP personnel said. “All persons involved were wearing safety equipment.”

Failure to yield appears to be the cause of the crash according to the highway patrol.

Photos and the names of the deceased have not been released at this time by the UHP.
