After a come-from-behind victory over Richfield last Friday, the Emery High Spartan football team will host the Grand County Red Devils this Friday in an early season 2A showdown.
Both teams scored a combined 78 points, so offense should be at a premium. Grand (1-0, 0-0 2A South) upended Carbon in Price by a score of 42-0, while Emery (1-0, 0-0 2A North) scored two late touchdowns in the fourth quarter to steal a victory from the Wildcats 36-32.
“Winning the first game definitely sets a good attitude for the team for the beginning of the season,” said Emery Coach Jim Jones.
Prior to the Richfield game, injuries to key players made the matchup even more difficult. Jones said that is pretty much what you have to deal with every week during an arduous football season.
“There were a few minor injuries (from the Richfield game), but nothing that would keep the players from playing in the next game or even practices,” he said.
Emery and Grand will meet up for the first time since a 14-0 Red Devil victory at Emery in 2009.
Injuries aside, the matchup up should be exiting. Those wishing to watch the game may do so by tuning to ETV Channel 6 on Emery Telcom’s cable service at 7 p.m. Friday.
