Three surrounding fires are making air quality in the Castle Country area quite severe, causing potential breathing problems for residents. Local organizations, including the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Castleview Hospital and the local health department, are closely monitoring the situation.
“At this time, the ash is accumulating in Carbon County from three fires: the Spring Canyon Fire, the Coal Hollow Fire (which is producing the majority of the smoke and ash we are seeing in Carbon County) and the Hill Top Fire,” the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office shared. “The closest fire to us is of course the Spring Canyon Fire. As of the latest update, it has burned 54.15 acres.”
According to the sheriff’s office, personnel are working closely with the Southeast Utah Health Department as well as the state fire warden to determine if further action is necessary due to air quality. Staff at Castleview Hospital recommends taking action if deemed personally necessary.
“If you or a loved one are suffering from the wildfire smoke, please see your primary care provider, urgent care or emergency department,” hospital staff shared.
