American Legion Post #3 and others participated in a Veterans Day program at the Price Peace Gardens on Wednesday in Price.

The American Legion began with a walk along Main Street, with police escort, and ended up at the Peace Gardens where the program took place.

Price City Mayor Joe Piccolo was introduced by Neldon Huff, Post #3’s commander.

“Today, more than ever this is an important day to us,” Mayor Piccolo said “To recognize those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms that we enjoy, but not only that, to recognize all of those who will have to stand the test of providing and protecting our freedom.”

Past commander of Post #3 Mario Di Caro then spoke about the “Doughboy” monument that sits in the Peace Gardens and how it came to be at its current location from its original location in Hiawatha. Di Caro also read his dedicatory remarks he made when Doughboy was unveiled in Price back in the early 90’s.

Huff concluded with remarks about veterans and how we owe our way of life to those who have fought so valiantly for our freedoms.

Pinnacle Canyon students littered the lawns of the Peace Gardens during the event and multiple musical numbers were sung by various classes.

The Pledge of Allegiance and national anthem were also part of the ceremony.

The event ended at 11 a.m. as seven members of Post #3 shot three rounds each to commemorate those that have served and died in defense of our country. Taps was then performed to officially end the ceremony.
