The annual Carbon County Search and Rescue Demolition Derby culminated the county fair on Saturday evening. Community members packed the stands at the fairgrounds to enjoy a night of entertainment.

This year’s derby featured classes for compact minis, trucks, minivans, misfits and more. Spectators were treated to plenty of smashing and crashing while enjoying dinner provided by search and rescue volunteers.

“Not only is this a fun community event, it is the main funding for the search and rescue,” the organization shared. “None of search and rescue’s funds come from taxes or county budget. The team is made up of all volunteer, unpaid members that often use their own vehicles and equipment.”

Funds raised from the derby directly benefit search and rescue and are supplemented with grants and reimbursement from the State of Utah.

“We appreciate all the continued support from the community because without everyone, we would not be able to operate,” Carbon County Search and Rescue shared.
