Utah Division of Wildlife Resources Press Release
Utah’s spring black bear hunt will start in about two months. Those who would like to hunt bears during the spring or fall season, may apply now for hunt or pursuit permits at www.wildlife.utah.gov.
Pursuit permits allows bears to be pursued by hounds, but does not allow the permit holder to harvest the bear.
To be included in the draw for permits, applications must be received through the website no later March 3 at 11 p.m.
Results of the 2014 Utah black bear draw will be available by March 14.
For those who do not plan on hunting bears in 2014, they can still apply for a bonus point. Bonus points increase the chance of drawing a bear permit in the future.
Applications for bonus points will also be accepted through the DWR website between Feb. 10 and March 3.
Everything hunters need to know about applying for a permit is available in the 2014 Utah Black Bear Guidebook available at www.wildlife.utah.gov/guidebooks.
For additional information about applying for a 2014 Utah black bear hunting permit, call the Utah Hunt Application Office at (800)221-0659 or the nearest DWR office.
