The Arch Coal Foundation again will honor five area teachersВ  with prestigious Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards in the 2011-2012 school year, according to Ken May, general manager of the Sufco mine.

“The Arch Coal Teacher Achievement Awards Program allows members of the community an opportunity to say ‘thanks’ to a teacher who made a positive impact on their lives,” said May. This is the sixth year for the Foundation’s teacher-recognition program in Carbon, Emery, Sanpete and Sevier counties, which surround the Skyline, Dugout Canyon and Sufco mines operated by Canyon Fuel Company, a subsidiary of Arch Coal, Inc.

В

“The Foundation’s program gives everyone – from students and parents to colleagues and all others who have ever been helped by a teacher – an opportunity to thank a special teacher and also to reward them,” said May. “The nomination process is easy, with forms available in area schools, partner locations and online at archteacherawards.com.”

В

The public nominates outstanding teachers, who are then sent applications for completion and submission to the Foundation. The applications are judged by a blue-ribbon panel of previous recipients, and the top five applicants are determined. Announcement of awardees is traditionally made in the spring, near the close of the school year.

В

The Arch Coal Foundation also supports teacher-recognition or grant programs in Colorado, West Virginia and Wyoming, as well as a number of other education-related causes. Including the teacher awards program, Arch Coal and its Foundation support $1.4 million in education-related programs and charitable giving each year. Details about the Foundation’s signature teacher awards and grant programs are posted online at www.archteacherawards.com.
