San Jaun County Sheriff’s Office Press Release

At 1:54 Monday afternoon, the body of 18 month old Aleeyah Janett Bell of Orangeville, Utah, was recovered from the Hall’s Crossing buoy field.

Alleyah had fallen into the water around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday as she played on a family houseboat. The San Juan County Sheriff had requested assistance from the Summit County Sheriff, the Utah Department of Public Safety and the National Park Service.

At around 1 p.m. Monday, the Utah Department of Public Safety Dive Team located the child in 240 feet of water using sonar. This depth was too deep for divers; therefore, the Summit County Search and Rescue deep water robot was used to recover the child’s body.

The body of the child will be transported to the Utah Medical Examiner’s Office to confirm the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing but there is no evidence of foul play.
