A drug incident at Helper Middle School on Wednesday affected about seven students according to a release from the Carbon County School District.
Helper Middle School principal Mica Salas noticed a boy behaving in an impaired manner during lunch. Salas then noticed a few other students who also appeared disoriented. Staff and students then identified the distributor.
“Officers charged the student with distribution of what appeared to be the mother’s medications,” a statement from the district reflected. “One student was transported to the hospital for further observation.”
Parents of the other students were called and asked to take their students to the hospital for an assessment. Students reported the activity and their actions ensured that the issue was addressed quickly.
“Officers and emergency personnel responded rapidly and professionally,” the statement said. “The students who took the medication are apparently safe with no long term ill effects.”
