Continuing into the summer season, Helper’s Main Street once again played host to First Friday for the month of June.

This month’s theme was Dragabilly, with homages paid to the olden days of Helper with events such as the annual bed races, which began at 6:30 p.m. The Vibe-Raiders were the winners in the adult category of the bed races while the Red Bulls Boys took the first place spot in the kids’ category.

The Helper Fire Department was transformed into a kangaroo jail, where an individual could be arrested for $5 and released either when the time was served or if their bail was posted. The kangaroo jail is a fun way for funds to be raised for the First Friday events each year.

A best in drag contest was hosted at Canvas Alchemy, as well as a best beard contest, and children could enjoy mini race car crafts and popsicles at Three Little Llamas. Fun continued with bounce houses hosted in the Main Street park and Karen Jobe Templeton’s show opening at K2 Gallery. Recycling-themed giveaways for kids with treats could be found at Bug and Bird Mercantile while Vintage Motor Co had classic cars parked out front.

Keep an eye out for July’s First Friday event, which is expected to take place on the July 2.
