After a sluggish first quarter, in which they scored a lowly 10 points, the Emery Lady Spartans got it going in the second against South Sevier to take a hefty halftime lead, ultimately winning the game 60-41.
After scoring a season-high 34 first-quarter points at San Juan on Jan. 18, 10 points against the Rams in the first on Thursday night seemed rather pedestrian. Emery, though, allowed just five first quarter points to South Sevier and just seven more in the second to take a hefty 36-12 lead into the break.
Megan Jensen paced three players in double figures, scoring 17 points on 6-7 from the floor while grabbing eight boards. Lainee Jensen nailed two threes, both back to back at the start of the third quarter, en route to 15 points. Kacelyn Toomer was 5-10 from the floor, adding 11 points. Kinlee Toomer dished out nine assists to go along with five points and five steals.
The Lady Spartans shot 47% from the field, going 21-45, including a 12-19 clip from the free throw line.
Emery (17-1, 7-1 Region 15) has won seven straight games since suffering its lone defeat back on Jan. 2 in Richfield. The Lady Spartans will host winless North Sanpete (0-16, 0-7 Region 15) on Tuesday. The game can be viewed live on ETV Channel 10 at 7 p.m.
