The Carbon baseball team and the baseball and softball teams from Emery High made it into the second week of their respective state tournaments. Below are results from yesterday’s games:
Carbon High Baseball
Up three to two going in to the top of the sixth inning, the Carbon Dino Baseball team gave up seven runs en route to a 12-3 loss yesterday against Desert Hills in the quarterfinals of the 3A Tournament in St. George.
Dylan Vogrinec hit an RBI double and Jaren McCourt blasted a triple. Dino pitcher Gage Bigelow allowed just two runs going in to the top of the sixth inning, but the Thunder punched across 10 runs in the final two frames to advance to the Semifinals against favorite Juan Diego.
The Dinos will play the winner of Cedar and Bear River in the loser’s bracket today at 1:30 p.m.
Emery High Baseball
The Emery High Spartans were ousted from the tournament yesterday at the hands of the Cedar Redmen, in a close game, 6-3. An official box score was unavailable for the game. Emery Closes out their 2011 campaign with a record of 12-11.
Emery High Softball
The Lady Spartans had high hopes in the 3A Tournament after an opening-round win over Wasatch last Saturday, but fell twice to opponents yesterday in St. George by a combined score of 26-14.
The Lady Spartans took on the Cedar Redmen in game one at Little Valley Fields, but gave up 15 hits and the Redmen took the game in five innings, winning 12-2. Emery’s Jeridi Price blasted a home run and Whitney Roper had a double.
Leading 9-4 after two innings against Grantsville in their second game, the lady Spartans gave up four runs in the fourth and fifth innings and couldn’t battle back. They lost a close one 14-12.
Emery’s Shelby Mason hit a grand slam in the loss. Auminee Bennet also hit a home run and Makiah Sherman had two doubles. Emery finishes the year with a record of 10-14-1.
