Helper City Councilwoman Malarie Matsuda took time during the Thursday evening virtual city council meeting to speak on the Bluegrass Rambler event for the Helper’s Mining and Railroad Museum.

Councilwoman Matsuda stated that this fundraiser will take place on May 22 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be a suggested donation of $10 for those that are not supporting members of the museum.

There are a number of bands that will be playing at the event, which will take place at the Rio Theater on Helper’s Main Street. One of the bands is called the Rail Jumpers, which is a bluegrass band from Utah.

There were two requests that Councilwoman Matsuda brought to the council, with the first one being that they wished to sell alcohol to help with the fundraising and needed a local consent approval.

The second request was for a street closure, which will take place just in front of the Rio Theater in order to set up tables and food trucks. West Coast Show Support will stream what is happening inside the theater on the outside in order for those that are enjoying their food and the fresh air to still listen to the music.

There is also going to be a presentation during this event by the Historic Graffiti Society about the graffiti that hobos would use. The exhibit will be displayed in the lobby of the Rio.

“We want to have a good time. We want to encourage people to become members of the museum and we’re excited to showcase this exhibit,” said Councilwoman Matsuda.

Ultimately, the local consent and the request to close a portion of Main Street were both approved by the council.
