Gaylene Erwin, Book Cliff Elementary’s new principal, grew up in Green River and graduated from Green River High School. She then moved and lived coast to coast before returning to Green River nine years ago.
Erwin has been teaching in the school district for seven years. Although her degree was in business, Erwin worked as a paraprofessional, coach and substitute teacher as well as taught third grade and kindergarten. She furthered her education at Western Governors University.
Erwin explained that she has big shoes to fill when she spoke of her goals at the school. “Mr. Jones has done a fabulous job the past four years as our leader. My goal is to proceed with that momentum, using my excitement for learning, to help our students continue to grow and reach the milestones and goals that we set together as teachers, parents and students,” said Erwin.
She added that Book Cliff has incredible potential and that she is excited to be a part of it.
Erwin has been married for 20 years and has two children, a freshman and a second grader. Her hobbies include photography and gardening, and she enjoys music.
