An Emery County visitor was transported to the hospital on Thursday afternoon after falling 12 feet while attempting to scale a boulder.

According to Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk, the man, in his mid-twenties, fell from a boulder he was attempting to climb near the old Wilberg Mine. The man broke his leg in the fall, prompting other climbers to call authorities for assistance.

Crews from the sheriff’s office as well as search and rescue responded to the scene. Area EMTs were also on hand to help stabilize and move the man to an ambulance for transport.

The man was coherent and in fairly stable condition throughout the event, according to Funk.

The name of the man has not been released.
