The 2nd Annual Real Men Can Cook competition heated up on Saturday night at the Holiday Inn.

Competitors entered various categories, such as appetizer, main dish, drink or dessert, for a chance to win bragging rights and various prizes. Attendees at the event paid a small fee to sample the men’s food and then voted for their favorite dishes. The overall best dish award went to Stephen Cha, who prepared homemade pasta, red sauce and sausage.

Also at the event, Chef Ron Paul did a cooking demonstration for the crowd, creating flames with a peach flambe dessert. A silent auction rounded out the festivities for the evening.

Proceeds from the Real Men Can Cook Competition will go to support the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in Carbon County, who is moving from Mont Harmon Junion High to a permanent location at 200 East in Price. The new venue will have programs not only for teenagers, but young children as well.

“I have seen too many kids go down the wrong path,” explained Megan Marshall, director of the Boy’s and Girl’s Club. “The opening of our new building will give kids a positive place to go. And a lot of people may think that the club is only for ‘bad’ kids. That’s not true. We will offer fun programs for all teenagers and kids in grades 1-6 within the community.”
