Josie Luke from the Boys and Girls Club of Carbon County approached Carbon County Commissioners on Wednesday to request continued support from the county to the club.

Last year, the county awarded $15,000 to the club. Since Luke became coordinator of the local club in March, she has seen improvements that are made possible by generous donations. According to Luke, an average of 5-6 youth attended the club in March. Now, attendance is hovering in the high teens.

“I like club because it’s a place I feel safe,” one member shared with commissioners. Other members shared experiences of the fun they have at the Boys and Girls Club and the new friends they have made.

Commissioners agreed to continue their support of the club with another $15,000. The Boys and Girls Club will use the funds for daily operations and for upcoming service projects that the kids take part in.
