The Carbon Dino Track and Field team competed at the UHSAA State Championships, held at the Clarence Robinson Track at BYU, over the weekend.
Blythe Bradford represented the Dinos well, bringing home the gold medal in the Long Jump with a distance of 17-3.0, making her the 2024 State Champion in the event. Easton Humes had a great showing as well, placing fifth overall in the 400m Dash (50.06). He also placed seventh in the 800m Run with a time of 2:02.46.
Sophia Taylor placed seventh in the 1600m Run in a time of 5:21.22. She also placed eleventh in the 800m (2:28.84) for the Lady Dino Senior. Gianna White placed seventh in the 400m Dash event, with a time of 1:00.80, improving on her prelim time of 1:01.37. Mia Crompton secured the eighth-place finish in the 200m Dash event with a quick time of 26.54.
Emily Defour claimed the tenth overall position in the High Jump with a jump of 4-9.0 for the sophomore. Jordan Shorts finished with a 15-0.0 jump in the Long Jump event, earning thirteenth. Rebecca Swasey had a throw of 86-10.0 in the Javelin event, placing in fourteenth.
Traxton Jewkes had a distance of 19-9.25 in the Long Jump, placing fourteenth. He also placed sixteenth in the High Jump with a jump of 5-8.0. Dexter Packard competed in the Long Jump Finals, placing seventeenth with a distance of 18-11.5.
In the Relays, Carbon girls placed second in the 4×100 in 50.18. The teams consisted of Mia Crompton, Blythe Bradford, Brooklyn Lowe, Jordan Shorts, Amiah Timothy, Ivy Bleecher, Lisa King and McKinlie Sharp. They also placed fourth in the Sprint Medley with a time of 4:26.84. The team consisted of Brooklyn Lowe, Amiah Timothy, Gianna White, Sophia Taylor, Mia Crompton, Ellie Hanson, Camryn Fandsen and Rozlyn Stowe.
The Lady Dinos also competed in the Unified UHSAA events with the competitors Ella Morley, Eliza Haddock and Kelsey Richards. Eliza Haddock would take home the gold in the Shot Put event, with a throw of 41-9.0. Richards finished fifth in the event with a throw of 30-5.0. In the Javelin event, Richards would claim the gold medal with a throw of 85-9.0, placing first overall in the event. Haddock finished in fifth, with a throw of 63-5.0. The team of Lilly Peterson, Kelsey Richards, Eliza Haddock and Jocelyn Frandsen competed in the 4×100 Relay, placing eighth with a time of 1:20.42.
The Lady Dinos claimed number eight in the team scores with 30.0 points, the boys scored 11.0, placing fifteenth. The overall score would be at 41.0, giving the Dinos the thirteenth position of the 19 teams that competed.
