Local authorities arrived on the scene of a devastating accident early Sunday afternoon.
Helper resident, Roy Bonuales, 41, was found dead after his SUV careened off the hill just behind Helper Auto off Highway 6. It is believed that the accidentВ occurredВ early Sunday morning, but the accident was not discovered until 1 p.m. Helper fire and police were first to arrive on scene and soon determined that the area of the accident was Carbon County’s jurisdiction. Tom Stefanoff, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy, said there was not much to report except the subject, for reasons that would not be released at this time, drove his white Chevrolet Tahoe off the side of the hill behind Helper Auto and was subsequently found dead at the scene. Utah Highway Patrol, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and search and rescue teams were all present on the scene to assist with the extraction of the body. Because of the steep terrain, a UHP Helicopter was called in to help with the extraction. Toxicology reports will later determine whether Bonuales was under the influence at the time of the accident. The sheriff’s office is still investigating.
