Thousands of gallons of water flooded Price City streets on Wednesday morning after a broken pressure control valve damaged pipes in North Price.

According to Sam White, supervisor of the Price City Water and Sewer Department, the valve reduces pressure on a 10 million gallon tank in the area. When the valve broke, pressure surged and damaged pipes in the city. Three pipes in the Coves area, including 900 North, 100 East and 950 North, as well as a pipe located at 450 North and 300 East near USU Eastern, were damaged. White estimates that between 10,000 and 20,000 gallons were lost due to the leaks.

Crews have isolated the leaks to their respective blocks, causing some customers to be without water at this time. According to White, two crews are working to repair the pipes and work is expected to take four to eight hours.
