With several years of teaching experience behind her, Basinger is excited to take on the new role and looks forward to working at the East Carbon school.
“I have lots of experience in all grades,” Basinger said. “These are all exceptional, number-one students and I am excited to be here.”
The transition between principals should be smooth. Current principal Leslie Jewkes explained that Basinger filled in for some time this past school year while she was away working on school programs. There is also plenty of time for the colleagues to work together and make sure students ease into the change.
Over the past several years, test scores have improved dramatically at Bruin Point, an accomplishment that Basinger wants to make sure doesn’t change.
“I want to keep this a high-performing school and continue to build a strong community,” she said. “I want to do what’s best for the students.”
Basinger currently teaches sixth grade and will begin duties as principal at Bruin Point during the 2013-2014 school year.
