The Ferron City Council and members of the community are working hard to help raise money for the city’s new welcome signs. The fundraiser was one of the main topics for Thursday’s council meeting.

To raise funds, raffle tickets are being sold at the Desertview Federal Credit Union through the end of the week. The prizes include a large painting by Kaylynn Winn and a two-night stay at Perkins’ B&B, among others. They also are selling prints of the picture by Winn, including an 8″x10″ for $15 and an 11″x14″ for $20. All the proceeds will go toward the welcome signs.

Also during the meeting, a citizen’s concern about sidewalks on 4th North came before the council, but because of the infrastructure and the narrow width of the street, it was decided that the street is not wide enough to add sidewalks.

Mayor Adele Justice and the council will review the 2019 budget recently approved to see if they can possibly find funds to pay the fire chief a salary similar to other cities in the fire district.

Also during the meeting, the Peach Days agenda and assignments were reviewed. The annual Peach Day celebrations are scheduled for Sept. 4-7.

To conclude, outstanding employee recognition was presented to Brittany Yeates.
