Founded in 1960, Castle Valley Federal Credit Union began serving the local area. Then, in 1981, Castle Valley and American Coal Credit Union merged to create Desertview Federal Credit Union, which now serves Carbon, Emery and Grand counties.
Castle Dale resident Michael Nelson heads Desertview Federal Credit Union as the president and CEO while Ferron native Kenzi Guymon works as the executive assistant, serving the board and president. The local credit union is also served by a volunteer board as well as 11 full-time employees.
Desertview offers checking and savings accounts, money market shares and CDs. Other services offered include commercial loans (start up and expansion) in addition to personal, home and vehicle loans. Members of Desertview Federal Credit Union can also take advantage of e-statements, automated teller, safe deposit boxes, online banking and direct deposit as well as debit, gift and travel cards. Members can also complete loan applications online at www.dview.org.
While the credit union offers a variety of services, it also focuses on giving back to the community through volunteer hours, donations and various sponsored events. One of biggest sponsorships of the credit union is the annual Desertview Pro Rodeo.
“We are very locally oriented,” Guymon explained. “We are big supporters of our community.”
This support comes from credit union members and boardmembers making conscious decisions that directly benefit the local community. Board members serve three-year terms with boardmembers Chris Justice and Larry Friis up for reelection at the credit union’s annual meeting. The meeting will be hosted on Jan. 23 at 11 a.m. at Miller’s Landing in Huntington. All members are invited to attend.
