Business Spotlight: Greenhalgh Taxidermy

Those that enjoy the majesty of the outdoor world and the animals of it understand that there is a great deal of art and creativity involved when it comes to capturing these elements on canvas. Imagine taking that canvas and making it three-dimensional, contoured and textured, complete with hair, horn, expression and more. Chase Greenhalgh does just that as the owner of Greenhalgh Taxidermy.

Greenhalgh has always had a love for animals and started out doing skull plate and European-style mounts. Working full-time and running his taxidermy hobby on the side, Greenhalgh quickly found a demand for his talent and went to school to study taxidermy. He officially started as a business in early 2014. Things have continued to grow for Greenhalgh and he has preserved quality trophies across the state, such as elk, deer, mink, beaver, badger, raccoon, fox and more. With a laugh, Chase stated that he can taxidermy “even a skunk, but it might stink to do.”

Greenhalgh does any small fur-bearing animal mounts to large animal shoulder and full body figure mounts. He can also produce rugs, pelts and mount shed antlers onto skulls. The newest addition to the company is antler replication and reproduction, and taxidermy of birds.

When asked what he enjoys most about taxidermy, Greenhalgh replied that he likes “the challenge and that each animal is different.  It’s a way to help the memory of the hunt last forever.”

“I just enjoy doing it all,” said Greenhalgh. “There’s no stress.”

At the time the harvest takes place, taxidermy has to be taken into consideration. From the way the hide is removed to the formation of the clay and airbrushing of the fine details, taxidermy is an art. Greenhalgh’s work has taken him across the state and into Idaho and he’s enjoying it all. He likes “to meet new people, and put a smile on their face” when the animal is completed.
