For those who have time on their hands and are looking for a worthwhile way to serve the community, consider volunteering at Castleview Hospital. The Pink Ladies of Castleview Hospital serve many purposes for the hospital and community. A typical schedule for a Pink Lady consists of one four-hour shift a week, and they receive free lunch on the day of their shift. Their duties consist of greeting people as they come through the doors, assisting and directing patients and visitors, transporting patients who are being discharged, managing the hospital gift shop and delivering food from the kitchen.
The Pink Ladies also give back to the community. This year alone, they have donated $12,000 to USU Eastern for nursing scholarships, $500 to the Light Your Night Cancer Walk, $500 to the OB for room decorations and $250 for toys for children that visit the hospital.“Volunteering for the Pink Ladies, you become family and the hospital treats us so well,” stated Pink Lady president Carol Cook. When a volunteer passes away, the Pink Ladies perform a tribute to them by releasing a dozen pink balloons as well as placing a dozen pink roses at the grave site.
An important duty of a Pink Lady is to manage the gift shop. The gift shop is open weekdays from 9-4 p.m. The gift shop offers a variety of unique gifts as well as many hand-crafted one-of-kind items like blankets, pillowcases and aprons. The gift shop not only offers items for loved ones who are in the hospital, but it also offers a wide variety of gift items that may be purchased for other occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas.
