Business Spotlight: Sutherlands

Price’s Friendly Home Improvement Warehouse, also known as Sutherlands, got its start in 2004 after Wayne Clausing relocated from Salt Lake City to manage the new store. Clausing didn’t take long to integrate himself into the new store and town, dividing his time between heading Sutherlands, serving as a Price City Councilman and serving on boards such as United Way of Eastern Utah.

The new store brought plenty to fit the needs of Castle Country residents’ home improvement projects. Sutherlands boasts a large lawn and garden department, paint, plumbing supplies, power tools, floor coverings, cabinets, counter-tops, furniture and lumber. Customers can also find complete building packages ranging from sheds to storage barns and garages as well as fencing, roofing and siding. The local store has continued to see positive changes and growth throughout the years, including an expanded tool department and remodeled paint department.

“Our power tool department is bigger and better than it ever has been before and our lawn and garden department is huge from where it started on day one,” Clausing said.

After browsing through hundreds of items, the crew at Sutherlands will continue to do the heavy lifting as they deliver purchases throughout Carbon and Emery counties. For a small fee, the Sutherlands delivery team can transport any purchase directly to a customer’s door.

Apart from the many items for sale at Sutherlands, a variety of services are also available to customers. Employees work to re-key locks as well as cut tile and lumber. Re-screening of windows and doors is another popular service, which costs the customer only $20 for a re-screening project of any size.

While Sutherlands is a go-to year round for the do-it-yourselfer, certain times of the year make the store increasing popular as large sales events take place. Such times include the store’s anniversary sale, which takes place in April, as well as Mother’s Day and Black Friday events. However, customers will see a different format to this year’s Black Friday event, which will feature up to 20% off store-wide.

“I am going to give back to my employees. We are not going to open on Thanksgiving anymore,” Clausing said. “We are going to bring Black Friday back to the way it used to be.”

While the store is narrowing its focus to Friday only, customers will still find the same great deals they have come to expect from Sutherlands. From 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., every item in the store will be 20% off. For the remainder of the day, customers will see 15% off store-wide.

Sutherlands is located at 406 South Highway 55 in Price. The store is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit sutherlands.com/s/Price-UT/2813 for more information and to see the weekly ad for Sutherlands in Price.
