This year’s Carbon Cal Ripken season started on April 4 and ended on June 4. The president of the league was Matt Tallerico. There were 35 combined teams within rookies, minors and majors.

“My favorite thing about baseball is the fast pace and it involves quick thinking,” Rylan Hart said.

The Tornado Tournament that was held the week of May 2 produced the Orioles as the winners for the minors and the Yankees in the majors division. The teams with the best overall record for the season were the Royals in minors and Dodgers for majors.

A family barbecue was hosted on June 3 with fun for the whole family. Activities included from a home run derby, around the horn and base running.

June 4 was closing day where the winners of the Tornado Tournament and the winners of the season were recognized. Landon Cruz stated,

“My favorite thing about baseball is the feeling you get of awesomeness when you hit the ball and get on base,” Landon Cruz said. “Also, being together with  friends on a team so you can work as a team.”

The announcing of the all-stars also took place at the event with a total of eight all-star teams. The all-stars, picked by coaches based on batting averages throughout the season, will compete with the Southern Region of Utah. The all-stars played in the Richfield in a father’s day tournament and also in the state tournament, hosted in Beaver.

“My favorite thing about baseball is the feeling  of hard work, always learning, taking first place, and making it to all-stars,” Cruz said.

The Rookie Tournament was held on June 6-10. The winner will be announced at a later time.
