Cancer survivor Wiley Nelson received the “Heart of Relay” at the Relay For Life on Friday.

Nelson was diagnosed with Leukemia as a six-year-old and has been in remission since he was nine-years-old.

Nelson said, “I’m just so grateful for my family and all they have done for me.”

Nelson has been participating in the Relay since 1999 and has served on the event’s committee since 2006.

One committee member said, “Wiley was an inspiration for me when I came on board.”

Nelson was also the first person from Emery County to receive a special scholarship from the American Cancer Society. The scholarship is only awarded to students who survived cancer as children.
