Each year, the Arch Coal Foundation awards five outstanding teachers with its Teacher Achievement Award. The public nominates educators who are honored with the prize and previous award winners select recipients.

Canyon View Junior High’s Reed Fehlberg received the Arch award this year. By earning the achievement, Fehlberg will receive $3,500, a trophy and plaque. According to the Arch Teacher Award website, Fehlberg has 35 years teaching experience. He currently teaches band at the Huntington school.

“Every day I am in the position to shape the minds, moral fiber, ambitions and dreams of the next generation,” Fehlberg explained at the awards ceremony. “What a tremendous opportunity and humbling responsibility. The student always needs to be more important than the subject being taught. They may forget the notes, the songs or the rhythms, but they won’t forget the way they felt while they were learning.”

This year marked the seventh year of the teacher recognition program. Educators from Carbon, Emery, Sanpete and Sevier counties are eligible for the award each year.
