On Saturday, people gathered from throughout the state to see a display of more than 50 cars at the Helper Outlaw Car Show. The cars ranged in years anywhere from 1920 to 2015 while most of the cars boasted dates from the ’50s and ’60s.
The show was hosted by the Butch Cassidy Gang Car Club. A short interview was conducted with Mike James, one of the event organizers, during which he took the time to state that the event was a true car show where the cars are the stars.
Before the awards were given to the car owners, there were two events that took place, the first being a pin-up competition. The competition was divided into two sections: those who were competing under eighteen and those who competed as adults. The winner of the under 18 competition was Angelina Montoya, whereas the prize holder of the adult competition was Mackenzie Thornton.
Shortly after the pin-up competition, there was a balloon release in the remembrance of local resident Jace Marietti, a local icon who recently passed away following a lifelong battle with Cockayne Syndrome.
At the end of the show, awards were given out to the owners whose cars struck the selected sponsors as intriguing. There were a total of 25 awards given out to participants, including the Mayor’s Choice, which was given to Rodney Wilde.
