The Carbon 10U All Stars notched their first regional victory Tuesday afternoon against the Southern California champions, Long Beach, 15-8. The win followed a 7-1 loss on Monday to the Northern Utah champions from Riverton. Ten teams total are vying to be named the Pacific Southwest champion.
The win marks the first victory in three years for the Carbon squad. The team won the 8U and 9U state titles the past two years before bowing out at regionals without earning a victory.
Carbon bashed 18 hits in the game to Long Beach’s 15. Carbon capitalized on seven walks en route to the 15 runs scored.
Riley Davis, CJ Smuin, Maizen Prichard and Ridge Nelson all took time on the mound in the game. Davis earned the win after going two innings in which he did not allow a run, the only pitcher to do so in the game.
Pool play will continue through Friday with Carbon facing off against Elk Grove, the Northern California champions, on Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Rohnert Park, Calif. Elk Grove was upended by Hawaii 13-3 on Tuesday. After Wednesday’s game, Carbon will be off until a Friday matchup against Hawaii at 1 p.m. The top two teams from each pool (Cal and Bill Ripken) will make it to the final tournament on Saturday.
