Tia Pappas, Carbon High School alumni and basketball standout, helped lead the Lady Dinos to some of their mostВ successfulВ basketball seasons a few years back. She has gone on to play at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. In her second season with the Griffins, she is again turning heads with her solid play.

Pappas was just awarded the Frontier Sixth Player of the Year award. She and her teammates dominated the Frontier League this season. Two of her teammates and the coach also received first team honors in the league.

As a sophomore, Pappas is averaging 8.2 points per game in her 23.1 minutes off the bench. She’s scored in double figures on 10 occasions and finished second in the league with 2.33 steals per game.В She becomes the first player in school history to take home this award.

The Griffins finished their season 27-3 and 14-1 in Frontier League play. They have remained ranked in top five of the NAIA all season. They are Frontier League Champions and by winning the title, Westminster earned an automatic invite to the NAIA National Championships.

Westminster drew a No. 2 seed in the 2013 tournament and will play St. Catharine (Ky.) in the first round on Thursday, March 14 at 10:30 a.m. MST.
