Battling weather this week, the Carbon baseball and softball teams found success despite the rainy weather.
Both the boys’ doubleheader and the softball team’s matchup at Union were both pushed to Wednesday, with the baseball team earning a split against North Sanpete and the girls earning a close, 4-3 win over non-region Union.
Cole Fossat pitched a complete game four-hitter in the first game of the doubleheader in Mt. Pleasant. The team had six extra-base hits, all doubles. Trey Richardson and Taylon Abeyta led the team with three hits apiece. They both combined for four RBIs. Four other players had two hits apiece.
The Hawks responded in game two with a come-from-behind 7-6 victory. Mitch Olson picked up the no decision as he gave up five runs in four innings pitched. Fossat relieved Olson and gave up two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the loss.
After bashing 17 hits in game one, the Dinos mustered just five in game two. Jayden Flemmett and Olson each had two RBIs on a hit apiece.
The Carbon Lady Dinos won a tough 4-3 game in Roosevelt, thanks in part to a herculean effort by McKenna Sorenson. The junior had three hits in four at-bats and knocked in two runs. She also struck out six batters in the complete game, in which she gave up three runs on six hits.
Kelsey Sorenson and Chandelle Nichols both had two hits in the game.
The Dino boys will play Saturday against North Sanpete after postponing Friday’s home matchup due to the rain. The Lady Dinos will travel to Canyon View on Friday.
