In a physical game against their rivals, the Carbon Lady Dinos used a big third quarter to earn its fourth straight win and ninth overall in a 46-38 win over the Emery Lady Spartans in Castle Dale on Tuesday. The loss dropped the Lady Spartans to 3-5.

Lindsey Blanc led all scorers in the game with 16 points, including 8-11 from the free throw line. She also had five rebounds. Morgan Hillam and Sara Morley each chipped in nine points. Morley also grabbed 14 boards.

The first two quarters were dead even between the two teams. At the end of both quarters, the Lady Dinos were able to tie the score on points by Blanc and Morley. Blanc hit two free throw with 3.7 seconds left in the first and Morley was able to put back a Cyene Bigelow miss with 11 seconds left to tie the score going into halftime.

After trading buckets in the first two minutes of the third, Carbon was able to put together a 10-0 run to open up a seven-point lead on a free throw by Hillam at the 1:27 mark. Multiple technical fouls were assessed in the quarter, one each to Emery’s Bayler Griffin and Abbie Huntington and one to Carbon’s Bigelow. Carbon led 35-28 after the third.

A bucket by Hillam to open the fourth gave Carbon a lead of nine at 37-28. Another Morley bucket at the 5:07 mark made it 39-28 to give Carbon its largest lead in the game. Emery would get within three, 39-36, on a basket by freshman Megan Jensen with 1:36 to go, but Blanc answered on the next Carbon possession on a layup on which she was fouled. Blanc then went 5-6 from the foul line in the final 49 seconds to seal the win.

Camrey Johnson led the Lady Spartans with 11 points, including three treys. Freshman Kacelyn Toomer added eight. Jessica Olsen finished with six points and nine rebounds.

Carbon (9-1, 0-0 Region 12) will enjoy a week off before traveling to 5A West High School (4-3, 1-0 Region 2) on Dec. 29. Emery (3-5, 0-0 Region 15) won’t play until a Jan. 5 matchup at Beaver (5-4, 0-0 Region 13).
