Both the Price and Helper American Legion teams are in the meat of their respective schedules.

Helper is 3-1 in its last four games. On Saturday, it made the trip to Herriman for a doubleheader. In game one, the team mustered just one hit, off the bat of Jarod Lessar, and lost 8-0. Lessar also was tagged with the loss, pitching four innings. Cole Fossat then took the mound in game two and tossed five innings of no-hit ball. Helper won the game 4-3. Ty Anderson had three hits in the game. Fossat added two more and Cody Lowe bashed a double. Anthony Maclean, who pitched the final two innings, had a two-run single in the game as well.

Price and Helper then squared off Monday night at USU Eastern. After taking a doubleheader against Price on June 13, Helper exploded for 21 hits in Monday’s matchup, winning the game by a 20-1 margin. Fossat bashed two homers in the game. Maclean got the win after throwing three innings of one-run ball. Zac Bradley came on in relief in the final two innings. Price had three hits in the game, a double off the bat of Trevor Pummell, who scored in the first inning on an RBI single from Tyson Busch. Alyjah Ellington also had a single in the game.

Both teams were part of an unconventional doubleheader on Tuesday. St. George made the trip to Price to first take on the Raptors at USU Eastern. St. George then traveled to Helper for a matchup later that evening.

Jumping out to a 4-1 lead after the third inning, Price stumbled in the late innings, losing 8-5. Duncan LaCombe went 1-2 with a single and two walks, as did Gavin Robinette. Ellington hit a sixth-inning solo home run to tie the game up at five. St. George then scored three runs in the seventh to escape with the win.

Helper’s bats were “a little flat,” coach Jeff Cisneros said about his team’s offensive showing against St. George. A dominant complete-game performance from Fossat was enough for the home team as it won 3-0. Fossat scattered six hits in the game. Helper had eight in the game, four of which came from Jayden Flemmett and Tel Gardner who each had two. Bradley knocked in two runs in the second on a single.

Helper will next play on July 12 against Vernal in a doubleheader in Helper. Price will travel to Vernal on Thursday for a double tilt as well.
