On Wednesday May 15, the Carbon Chamber of Commerce gathered at JB’s of Price for the monthly lunch meeting. Jackie Davis of Price Floral was honored as the business of the month.
Davis said she has expanded her business from a flower show to gifts, scarfs, clothing, accessories, wedding rentals and more. She called herself the “Godmother of Main Street” and is one of the longest established business owners doing business in the downtown area.
Service Area Director Shelly Ivie was the guest speaker. She is with the Department of Workforce Services and along with Workforce Development Specialist Nicole Steele outlined many programs available to area businesses to aid in employment.
These include business solutions programs that aid in the posting of job openings, screening of resumes and hiring reports. Access to an information specialist is also included. On-the-job training programs can offer reimbursement of up to 50% of the participating wage to employers who provide job training for new hires.
A bridge program also can provide reimbursement for small businesses who incur training costs from the creation of new jobs due to expansion or recruitment. Businesses must have less than 100 employees.
Ivie said many other programs to help employers with tax credits, pre-layoff solutions and other on-line retools are waiting to be used. In the Price area Steele is a great contact to help guide employers through all the resources available.
