Carbon County Chamber Takes its Turn with Golden Scissors

A special ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday had the Carbon County Chamber of Commerce’s golden scissors in the hands of chamber board members as they, and others, celebrated their new location.

Now located in the Carbon County Administration Building, the chamber recently settled into its new home in the former tourism office space. The move was discussed for some time between chamber board members and county officials before it was deemed to be an advantageous relocation to enhance the partnership between the two entities.

The chamber employs two women to run the day-to-day operations. Jamill Tapia and Deserae Stevenson organize ribbon cuttings and luncheons, maintain and grow chamber membership, and encourage business growth in Carbon County.

Tapia and Stevenson work closely with the chamber board, which consists of five executive directors and a handful of board members. This year’s board is led by CCCC President Ryan Murray of the USU Eastern Small Business Development Center.

Murray had the honor of using the scissors on Tuesday to cut the ceremonial ribbon. He then took time to thank those in attendance and those who have supported the chamber throughout the years. He and Tapia also explained the success of the chamber’s Snap Shot Passport, which encourages local youth to explore Carbon County and its offerings. The chamber will host a special party for those who participated in the passport event on Aug. 16 at Price’s Washington Park. Beginning at 6 p.m., participants will enjoy fun and prizes for their participation in the event.

The Carbon County Chamber of Commerce office is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information on the chamber and its services, please click here.
