Carbon County Commission discusses the effects of business tax exemption

Each year, businesses are allowed to apply for tax exemption from the state. This year, businesses can be tax exempt up to $4,000. While this is good for business, the taxation will instead be shift to homeowners. Next year, it is expected that the amount of tax exemption for businesses will increase, therefore increasing the amount homeowners are taxed. This ensures that the state still receives the amount of tax dollars from the previous years.

Also discussed in the meeting was the Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan. The plan addresses potential hazards in the southeastern region of Utah and how to act upon these incidents. It took over a year to prepare the plan and it will be approved at the next commission meeting.

Erica Vogrinec was awarded with the employee of the month award. Vogrinec has only worked with the county for a few months, but has shown great dedication and hard work to Carbon County.
