Commissioner Jae Potter, with help from commissioners Jake Mellor and Casey Hopes, took time during the most recent commission meeting to make an announcement and update on the upcoming 25K Jobs Launch event.

Governor Gary Herbert has put this campaign together, with the help from numerous entities, to ensure that rural Utah provides jobs to residents. In January during the state address, the Governor addressed that he would like to have 25,000 new jobs throughout rural Utah. This is not a one-shot effort on their part, tbut the beginning of the process.

On August 9, a number of items pertaining to this are going to take place in Carbon County. Beginning at 3 p.m. that day in the commission chambers, there will be a press conference with several of the companies that are bringing jobs to the county. The businesses will announce what jobs are going to be brought in while members of the press will be in attendance covering the conference.

Commissioner Mellor pointed out that individuals from the SBA office will also be in attendance. The IT world, data storage, manufacturing and call centers, are some of the industries that will make presentations.

“It is really exciting to have these individuals come here to our area,” Mellor stated.

The next event to take place that day will be at the Jennifer Leavitt Student center at USU Eastern and will begin at 5 p.m. and run until 7 p.m. The event will be a job and resource fair. Information and flyers are being circulated with information on the fair. It is an opportunity for companies coming in and coming down from the state agencies. This event will be sponsored by Workforce Services, the Chamber of Commerce, BEAR and Carbon County.

Following the job fair promptly at 7 p.m., there will be an opportunity to listen to the lieutenant governor speaks, as well as other entities from the state such as business partners, county and city officials and local employers.

“This really is an opportunity for anyone that has been interested in jobs or what is coming to the area,” commissioner Potter said.
