Carbon County continues to work hand in hand with its Economic Development Committee, planning for the economic future of the county.
Carbon County has been in a transition period for its economic development and tourism departments for the past few months. Commissioners and the Carbon County Economic Development Committee (CCEDC) have continued working on various projects. CCEDC has been working with the county for the past two years to develop strategies and plans to promote growth locally. The CCEDC consists of both public and private representation and has assigned specific projects to subcommittees.
Currently, one of the Beautification Subcommittee projects is to have the on and off ramps for Exit 240 cleaned up and landscaped with crushed rock. This committee chose to move forward with this project primarily because it understand the impact a first impression of a community can have on potential companies considering relocation. It also believes this could have a lasting positive impression on both tourists and potential tourists traveling via Highway 6.
Funding for this project consisted of in-kind contributions from Carbon County, Price City and local businesses, cash donations from local individuals and businesses, and a $50,000 contribution from the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT).
Beautification Subcommittee Chair Kathy Hanna-Smith explained, “It really did take a team of community volunteers and local business dollars to put this together.” Hanna-Smith continued, “Thanks to Daniel for his creativeness to get this job done and with style and class that we can all be proud of. It’s been a long time coming, but, I guess all good things take time!”
The Exit 240 Beautification Project is a public-private collaborative effort, with intent to continue working on the additional quadrants of Exit 240 as well as other exits off Highway 6 in the county. Private and business contributors include; Chancellor Joe Peterson, Johnson Appraisal, Emery Telcom, Castleview Hospital, Jones & DeMille Engineering, Nelco Contractors, Nielson Construction, Dinosaur Les Schwab Tire, Dugout Coal Mine, Skyline Mine, Walmart and USU Eastern. Public contributors include; Carbon County, Price City and UDOT.
