Carbon County resident Bart Sorenson appeared before 7th District Court Judge George Harmond on Wednesday afternoon for 40 counts of forcible sexual abuse.
Sorenson, 43, was arrested on July 18 and booked into the Carbon County Jail for forcible sexual abuse. In his first appearance before the court, 40 counts of forcible sexual abuse were formally charged. The abuse allegedly occurred between July 1, 2012 and July 17, 2016.
Sorenson will be released from jail on his own recognizance, which means no bail money needs to be paid to the court and no bond will be posted. He will be allowed to work, if able, while he seeks legal counsel. Sorenson was ordered to have no contact with the alleged victims.
Before his next appearance in district court on August 15, Sorenson has been ordered to seek an attorney if funds are available. If he has not been able to obtain counsel before his next appearance, a court-appointed attorney will be assigned to the case. A preliminary hearing will then be scheduled.
