A Carbon County man was sentenced to prison on Monday after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl.
Kenneth Ray Fox, 30, of Sunnyside, pleaded guilty in the Seventh District Court to forcible sexual abuse and enticing a minor over the internet, both second-degree felonies. The charges stem from a report made by the young girl that there had been a sexual relationship between her and Fox. Members of the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office and East Carbon Police Department investigated the report, sorting through the evidence that was found predominately in a digital format.
“They did an excellent job investigating and getting the evidence we needed,” said Sean Brian, Carbon County Deputy County Attorney.
Fox was originally charged with five felonies, including rape of a child, according to Brian. The charges were minimized as part of a plea deal, leading to the two second-degree charges.
“We reached this deal consulting with the victim and the terms of the deal were that Mr. Fox would agree to be sent to prison,” Brian said. “That was the consideration for reducing the charges.”
Fox was ordered to immediately begin serving the sentences for both charges, each equating to one to 15 years in the Utah State Prison. The sentences were ordered to run concurrently.
“Hopefully this will give her some closure and allow her to move on,” Brian said of the victim.
