With summer in full swing, the sheriff’s office has had a busy week. We would like to remind everyone of the fire restrictions in the unincorporated areas of the county. This restriction includes fireworks and open burning. With dry conditions, fire can spread at a rapid rate and quickly grow out of control.

The inmate work crews have been out in the community working this past week. They have been doing a painting project for the sheriff’s office as well as a cleanup project at the North Springs Shooting Range.

These inmates have worked hard and have been willing to jump in and get these projects done. This is a great way for them to give back to the community.

Our thoughts are with trooper David Schiers. Trooper Schiers was struck by a vehicle while investigating a traffic accident on I-15 near Cedar City. I just wanted to remind motorists to slow down and move over when you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the roadway. With the summer weather, be aware of the conditions and know that water standing on the roadway is a dangerous situation. I ask motorists to drive carefully.

We have listed some scams that are going around on our Facebook page. We will continue to keep the community updated as we learn of these types of criminal activity in our area.

The local law enforcement team is strong and working towards a common goal. I want to remind all of our local law enforcement officers to be safe in their day to day duties. Carbon County truly is a great place to work, live and raise a family. I am happy to be a part of this community.
