Carbon County found itself doubling, tripling and possibly even quadrupling in young athletes as the opening ceremony of the Cal Ripken Southern Utah All-Star Tournament commenced on Monday morning.
With over 70 expected teams to compete in this tournament, the fields were packed. Teams from Carbon, Vernal, Emery, Manti and more came together to celebrate their love of the game of baseball. The ceremony began by a welcome to the area, a reading of the rules and a special presentation of a young gentleman singing a rendition of “Take Me Out to The Ball Game.”
“The Star Spangled Banner” was also sang to the crowd, who faced the flag and stood proudly. Afterward, the games officially began.
This tournament is slated to run until July 1 and span all over Carbon County. The Carbon County Fairgrounds, Helper, South Price, the Toy Atwood Ball Complex and Wellington will all see action on their baseball diamonds.
ETV will be broadcasting select games during the semi-finals and finals of the tournament. Tune in to ETV Channel 6 & 10 or online at www.etv10news.com/livesports to get close to the action.
